OpenAI is adding a College Planner tool to ChatGPT for Teens, a mode introduced in August that includes safeguards and break reminders. According to OpenAI, the feature consolidates application requirements, deadlines, tasks, and financial-aid steps for the schools on a student’s list into a single plan. Students applying to multiple colleges can return to the plan to update their progress, use a timeline to plan ahead, and see remaining tasks. They can also ask ChatGPT questions along the way, such as clarifying what a requirement means or how to get started. OpenAI says the feature will arrive “soon.”
Why it matters
The tool extends ChatGPT into the college application workflow, an area that involves tracking numerous deadlines and requirements across multiple schools.
Who should care
Students applying to colleges, along with the parents and advisors supporting them, may find the planning and tracking functions relevant once the feature launches.
