Google has released a Gemini 3.8 Live update that lets users converse with the model while an animated AI persona, called Live Avatar, responds in real time. According to Google, the avatar lip-syncs and displays a range of facial expressions during conversations, and can display information on-screen. The feature supports 97 languages and, per Google, can switch between them without degrading video fidelity or introducing visual drift. A demonstration video shared by Google shows the avatar speaking in English and Japanese with mouth animation aligned to the spoken words. The feature is currently available only to Gemini Enterprise customers.

Why it matters

Adding a visual, expressive persona to a conversational model changes how users interact with AI, moving from text and voice toward face-to-face style exchanges. Google’s claim of language switching without visual degradation, if borne out, points to a focus on consistent quality across markets.

Who should care

Gemini Enterprise customers can access the feature now. Organizations working in multilingual contexts may find the multi-language support relevant.
