Anthropic is expanding Claude’s voice mode beyond the Haiku model, making it available for its more capable Opus and Sonnet models. The company is also extending voice support into apps including Gmail, Slack, and Canva.

According to Anthropic’s blog post, voice mode originally launched last year with a focus on quick, low-latency answers to casual questions. The company says users began applying it to more demanding tasks, including working through real business problems—use cases that Haiku, its faster but less powerful model, was not designed to handle.

Why it matters

Moving voice interaction to Opus and Sonnet pairs a spoken interface with more capable models, and integrating with common workplace apps positions voice mode for tasks beyond simple queries.

Who should care

Users of Claude who rely on voice interaction, and people who work within Gmail, Slack, and Canva, are the most directly affected by the change.
