Universal Music Group announced plans to launch an AI-powered platform developed with ElevenLabs, a company focused on AI voice and music generation. According to the announcement, the platform will let users draw from UMG’s catalog of licensed music to create remixes, mashups, and reworked versions of tracks. The two companies are building it through a multiyear licensing agreement, and artists can choose whether to take part.

The move adds to a series of AI deals for UMG. The label is also developing an AI music platform with Udio and has struck AI licensing agreements with Spotify, Nvidia, and others.

Why it matters

The partnership signals a major record label pursuing AI music tools built on licensed catalog material rather than opposing generative music outright, with an opt-in structure for participating artists.

Who should care

Musicians signed to UMG, music industry stakeholders, and developers working on generative audio tools have reason to follow how this licensed approach develops.
