Twitch has introduced an option allowing users to opt out of having their content used to train Amazon’s generative AI models. According to a Twitch support page, opting out means a user’s streams, VODs, clips, stream chats, and the pictures and text on their channel will not be used in future training of an Amazon AI model designed to generate or synthesize text, audio, images, or video.

Other “AI-supported” features, such as captions and safety tools, will continue to function even for users who opt out. The support page also notes that when a user participates in a chat on someone else’s stream, that streamer’s opt-out preferences determine whether the chat can be used for training.

Why it matters

The change gives creators more control over how their content contributes to generative AI development, addressing a growing concern about the use of user-generated media in model training.

Who should care

Twitch streamers and viewers who want to limit how their content and chat contributions are used in Amazon’s generative AI training.
