Nexus Mods, described as the biggest modding site in PC gaming, announced that disclosures about AI use will become mandatory for uploads of new mods. Under the change, mod authors will have to declare whether AI has been used in their work. The announcement came in a post from site owner Victor “Foledinho” Folmann addressing AI-generated content on the platform.
According to Folmann, a consistent concern among users is that the use of AI in creating a mod is not clearly disclosed. The site already offers tags for AI-generated and AI-assisted mods, but the post states there is more it can do to make that information clearer and more accessible to users.
Why it matters
The move reflects growing attention to transparency around AI-generated content within creative communities, where users have asked for clearer labeling of how mods are made.
Who should care
Mod authors uploading new content to Nexus Mods and users who rely on the platform’s content tags will be directly affected by the new disclosure requirement.
