Perplexity has launched Teammates, a set of always-on AI agents aimed at work-related tasks. According to the company, Teammates can take on multiple roles within a workspace while drawing on existing projects, skills, and memory from Perplexity’s current tools. Each Teammate can be assigned different jobs that run simultaneously, an approach the report compares to OpenAI’s Dots and Claude Duet.

Teammates integrate with Perplexity Computer, an AI system that can deploy agents on a user’s device to complete tasks. Perplexity describes Teammates as building on top of Computer by adding the ability to collaborate and carry out ongoing, large-scale work. The launch places Perplexity in direct competition with OpenAI and Anthropic.

Why it matters

The release signals growing competition among AI companies to deliver agents built for sustained, workplace use rather than one-off tasks, with an emphasis on persistence and collaboration.

Who should care

Teams and organizations evaluating AI agents for workplace automation, as well as those already using Perplexity tools, may find the integration with existing projects and memory relevant.
