Amazon Web Services has announced SageMaker HyperPod Inference Gateway, a routing add-on for inference workloads running on Amazon EKS. The tool is Kubernetes-native and GPU-aware, using real-time GPU signals to direct each inference request to the pod best suited to handle it.

According to AWS, the approach can cut first-token latency by up to 82% and does not require modifications to existing model servers or client applications.

Why it matters

Routing decisions based on live GPU utilization can improve responsiveness for inference workloads. By operating as an add-on that leaves model servers and clients unchanged, it aims to lower the effort needed to adopt more efficient request routing.

Who should care

Teams running inference workloads on Amazon EKS and GPU infrastructure, along with MLOps and platform engineers managing serving performance, may find the add-on relevant.
