Google has released an experimental note-taking app, Google AI Edge Foresight, that transcribes meetings and audio files completely offline, according to a report originally from TechCrunch. The app is free, runs on macOS, and uses Google’s on-device EmbeddingGemma 2 model. Alongside transcription, Foresight summarizes meetings and offers a space for users to take their own notes. Google says shorthand bullet points jotted during a meeting can be converted into “polished notes” based on the transcript. The app is positioned alongside similar tools such as Granola and Wispr Flow.
Why it matters
Because transcription runs entirely on-device, audio does not need to leave the user’s machine, which may appeal to those with privacy concerns around cloud-based note-taking.
Who should care
macOS users who record and summarize meetings, and anyone comparing on-device transcription tools, may want to try the experimental app.
