Google has released Gemini 4 Carbon, its latest frontier model, which the company says delivers significant gains in coding, agentic tasks, and cybersecurity. In an announcement, Google highlighted that Carbon takes the top position on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index (v5.0) benchmark, placing ahead of Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra. The model builds on Argon, which Google released earlier in the same month.
At launch, Gemini 4 Carbon is available only to a select group of cybersecurity defense companies. Google says access will later expand to other partners through its Fairwind Program.
Why it matters
Google frames cybersecurity as a central improvement area and points to a leading benchmark result against competing frontier models, signaling continued competition at the top of the model market.
Who should care
Cybersecurity defense firms are the initial audience, with broader partner access expected later. Developers and organizations tracking frontier model capabilities and benchmarks may also find the release relevant.
