Google announced on Thursday that its AI note-taking app NotebookLM is being renamed Gemini Notebook. The company said the app will continue to operate as a standalone product even as it integrates more deeply across Gemini and Google Search.
The app was first shown in May 2023 under the name Project Tailwind before being released widely months later. Since then, Google has added features aimed at organizing and interpreting notes, including the ability to turn notes into AI-generated podcasts, narrated slideshows, and short-form video clips. Google also recently began allowing users to connect their notebooks to additional sources.
Why it matters
The rename aligns the product with Google’s broader Gemini branding while signaling tighter integration with the company’s search and AI ecosystem.
Who should care
Current NotebookLM users and those who rely on the app for note organization and summarization should note the name change and the planned deeper integration with Gemini and Google Search.
