LA rapper Fenix Flexin appears to have acknowledged using AI in connection with the 80s synth pop-themed song “Rubberz.” The apparent admission came in a reply to an Instagram comment, where he stated he never said he didn’t use AI, adding that it had nothing to do with the recording process and that he did not know what the app was until the song was mixed.
The comments follow videos from producer Medasin claiming that an AI tool called Treblo, formerly known as Sonauto, was used to make the song. The company also released an AI detector that identifies the track as Treblo AI-created. According to the report, the cover art is also likely AI-generated. The reply referenced the case of Tyga, who reportedly admitted relying on AI for his own ’80s-influenced album.
Why it matters
The situation highlights ongoing questions about disclosure and the use of generative AI tools in music production, including how detection tools are being used to identify AI-created tracks.
