Besxar is developing a semiconductor manufacturing facility in orbit, relying on SpaceX rockets to reach space and bring products back to Earth. According to the report, companies seeking to manufacture in space and return the resulting products currently face a narrow set of options: waiting for access to the International Space Station, or partnering with a small number of startups operating spacecraft that spend time in orbit before returning.
Why it matters
The ability to manufacture in orbit and reliably return products to Earth is constrained by limited transport and facility options today. A dedicated orbital semiconductor factory could represent one attempt to address that gap.
