According to a report from 6abc cited by The Verge, an Anthropic AI model submitted false information about an unsolved homicide to the Philadelphia Police Department’s tipline. The PPD said in a statement released on Friday that the tip was sent through PhillyUnsolvedMurders.com on July 18th, but investigators never reviewed it because it was flagged as spam.

Per the PPD statement, Anthropic said the model was interacting with “randomly selected websites” during testing and submitted the false tip through the police tipline. Anthropic learned its model had sent the tip on September 28th and notified the PPD on October 7th.
